Renting bikes at Quechua bike rental to explore the salar was amazing! José is such a kind and helpful presence. He rented the bikes to us on his day off. He asked us what our plan was and gave us tips. The price for the bikes is 160bs a day, which is a steal for the unique experience you get. Also, the bikes are really good quality and are perfectly suited for exploring the though environment. We went 2 days, but I recommend going longer. The perfect way to discover "Salar de Uyuni" on two wheels! While prepring the bike Jose asked the right questions, explained how to drive safely on a Bolivian highway and gave me some security equipment like a helmet, a reflective vest and an inner tube in a small toolbox. The bike I got was a kind of offroad mountainbike which fits exactly to the holey Uyuni backstrets, the asphalt of the highway, the moisture surface of the "Salar" and also headwind with wind speeds of up to 48 km/h. The stable price of 160 Bs is reasonable for this very unique experience. The welcoming, friendly and caring character of Jose makes it even better :) Reaching "Salar de Uyuni" by bicycle is the best way to feel closer to the miracle of nature and meanwhile keep connected to the welcoming local people beside the way :)

If there was a certification on adventure Jose would be your guru. For a mere 160 Bolivianos a day, I was equipped with a trusty steed and sent off into the vastness of the Uyuni Salt Flats. No tour guide, no support crew – just me, Jose's bike, and a whole lot of salt. Jose's pre-ride pep talk was a mix of encouragement and cautionary tales. I'm pretty sure he was half-expecting me to get lost, stranded, or eaten by a giant salt creature. But hey, I made it back in two pieces (mostly).
